Shame

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a big fan of nudity on the big screen or in the theater just to catch attention. But this is definitely not what this movie is doing, even though the motive in this movie certainly is SEX. Michael Fassbender is more naked then dressed and we see him in some pretty intimate situations. But the Director Steve McQueen did such a fabulous job. It is never in the porn direction, it is more like you can feel the pain of the protagonist while all this happens. He is a sex addict. It is not a pleasure for him. It sometimes seems like he is more disgusted than satisfied.

And Michael Fassbender is so good -such a dedicated actor. I can’t imagine doing what he is doing. He is so exposed in this movie. Not only because you can really see EVERYTHING (especially on the big screen), but because he lets us see in his soul. He is so venerable and you can really feel his pain while watching.

I will not forget to mention Carey Mulligan. This is already the second movie I recommend with her here and she deserves it. Even though she is not as exposed as Michael Fassbender we also see her naked. Also her singing New York, New York is just really touching. I read that Fassbender and James Badge Dale never heard her sing before and their reactions were real. And Fassbender having tears in his eyes tells everything.

Apparently the movie was shot in 25 days. This and the method acting is something I really enjoy. I really think that this way of making a movie is so much better than the traditional Hollywood productions. Of course it depends on the movie and you can’t film something like The Hobbit in one month, but for this kind of movie it is an advantage. It does feel more real.

Like you see, I enjoyed this Film. It maybe leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, because it is really a hard topic, but you will see an astonishing movie made by a remarkable director with two incredible actors. So don’t be ashamed and go watch it!
