Well, how about a French movie. The last one I saw (and liked) was Intouchables. It is a movie about friendship, about respect and about class differences. But the most of all: it is really funny! Once again a movie that goes and falls with its two main actors. The story is quite simple: a rich but disabled white man employs a black guy that just came out of jail. The reason why he decides to give him a job is because he is the only one that doesn’t feel sorry for him.

And so; the two start to spend some time together. They show each other their world. Philippe (the white upper-class guy) has fun for the first time since the accident and Driss (the black guy from the Banlieue) learns about art and how it feels to get a second chance.

The best for the audience is that this movie is based on a true Story. A feel-good movie that gives you hope in this dark world. Of course there is a lot to criticize. The stereotypes of black and white in French society get attended. And some people also disapprove of the fact that Driss is black and in real life he is an Arab. But all that doesn’t matter so much and you shouldn’t think about it, because this movie is just adorable. The two actors are so sympathetic that you just have to like them. Of course Omar Sy (Driss) does most of the acting since François Cluzet (Philippe) is paralyzed from the neck down. And Omar has an incredibly delightful smile. It is really fun to watch him on the screen.

François Cluzet can only use his facial expressions to show the viewer what he feels. It is an incredible challenge for an actor to play a disabled person anyways and in this case it is extra hard. But he manages it so well.

It is this phenomenon that French movies are able to tell cute stories without being to cheesy. I’m sure this story doesn’t work in Hollywood. It would be just over the top. So, sit back, relax, stop thinking and just enjoy this delightful movie.
